Finding Hope and Healing Through the Challenges of Infertility and Loss

April 11, 2023

CARRYWELL: A community carrying one another through seasons of infertility and loss by cultivating connections and granting financial assistance for medical treatments.

Infertility is a deeply personal experience that can take many different forms, from the heartbreak of a miscarriage to the challenges of medical conditions that make it difficult to conceive. For those who are struggling with infertility, the journey can be overwhelming, and it can be difficult to find the support and resources they need to navigate this difficult time. That’s where organizations such as CARRYWELL come in.

Created by women who have experienced infertility firsthand, this organization is dedicated to providing hope, healing, and community to those who are facing the challenges of infertility. Keep reading to explore the impact of infertility and to learn about the ways in which CARRYWELL is making a difference in the lives of people who are struggling to conceive.

What Does Infertility Look Like?

The word “infertility” is a broad word because it can mean so many different things. It can mean a woman who has just experienced her first—or fifth—miscarriage. A husband who has undergone chemo / radiation and is unable to have children. A woman whose medical history would make it unsafe for her to carry children. Or a couple who has had 3 successful pregnancies and desperately wants another child but is met with new challenges. The word infertility can be finite and multi-dimensional, and because of that, the grief and heartache can sometimes seem unbearable.

It is through personal experiences of infertility, heartache, and loss that the organization CARRYWELL was created.

CARRYWELL strives to bring hope, healing, and community to those experiencing infertility by offering one-on-one connections to unite women and men who share a similar journey.

This is done by:

  • Virtual or in-person community groups, providing an opportunity to refocus the mind.

  • One-on-one connections for men and women to communicate via email, phone, or in-person meetings.

  • Financial grants for those who need medical treatment in order to conceive.

  • Financial grants for grief therapy for those grieving a loss and needing professional support.

  • Virtual and in-person community events.

Infertility affects all races and social classes with 1 in 8 couples experiencing infertility. The average cost of one in vitro fertilization (IVF) treatment is $15,000+ and most insurance companies do not cover this cost. To date, CARRYWELL has served 585 women and men in community groups and has awarded 39 fertility grants with 10 babies being born following the medical treatments received.

Infertility often creates one of the most distressing life crises a couple can face. CARRYWELL believes that hope and healing is available to all. If you are walking in a season of infertility and/or loss, we hope you will join CARRYWELL and find the support you need.
